Penn Data Science Group was founded in late 2016 by a group of graduate students in the computational chemistry and physics departments. PDSG was initially envisioned as an educational and competition-focused club. As Penn's course offerings in data science have improved, PDSG has shifted its focus onto small projects with an outside organization, career development, and education on advanced, data related, topics.

Our mission is to build a social and professional community for students to exchange ideas, connect with industry professionals and develop the skills needed to have a successful data science career. The groups main goals are:

• Coordinating projects that allow students to dive into real-world datasets while developing their technical skills

• Facilitating workshops to demonstrate data science tools and techniques

• Bringing in data professionals to talk to students about their fields and careers

• Making it easier for students to learn from and teach each other industrially relevant data science skills.
